fun tip:

anxiety is not cured by forcing a person into the situation that makes them anxious

EXACTLY GOD BLESS YOUR GOOD SOUL

it’s called systematic desensitization and/or flooding and it’s one of the most effective treatments for anxiety and phobias

but you know, whatever, let’s keep being fucking stupid and demonizing treatment because it’s unpleasant to go through

i’d disagree that ‘demonising treatment’ is an accurate summary of the op’s post though because i very much doubt that they were referring to either of these things in the context of actual treatment so much as unrelated people/family and friends ~trying to be helpful~ by shoving people into things without their consent and just telling them to face their fears

which isn’t at all the same as willingly facing your fears, whether it’s by your own volition or with the input of a professional or whatever

yeah no for one thing those treatments start slowly and work their way up. Taking someone with high anxiety and forcing them on a stage against their will or into a crowded party despite them expressing they really do not want to and have not reached that stage in treatment is not like either of those treatments.

much in the same way curing a phobia of spiders would not be constantly shoving live and dead spiders into that person’s face and making them scream.

I pass out at the site of either of those things because of panic attacks causing my blood pressure to skyrocket then quickly hit rock bottom. It got exponentially worse when I tried exposure therapy. I think learning about your fears and how to respond to them is good, but the anxiety will always be around especially if it’s a phobia.
